SafeBaby Software Solution Donation Project

SafeBaby® Software Solution, Paragon’s flagship feed management system, will be donating its innovative barcode-based breast milk tracking systems to donor milk banks across North America.
As the number of woman in industrialized nations choosing to breastfeed their infants continues to climb, many new mothers find themselves unable to produce enough milk to sufficiently nurture their children.  Families of premature babies are especially vulnerable to breastfeeding issues, as the mother’s body has not had enough time to begin lactation.  Unfortunately, these preemies rely on human breast milk to help protect and heal their underdeveloped digestive tissues, as consuming man-made formulas can cause life-threatening conditions such as gut disease.  When a child’s mother cannot provide her own milk, neonatologists turn to donor banks to supply a natural substitute.
But as the demand for donated breast milk increases, hospitals have a difficult time obtaining enough milk for their patients.  Inefficient communication and product tracking issues pose significant roadblocks to an NICU’s breast milk supply.  The boards of the European Milk Bank Association and the Human Milk Banking Association of North America as well as the ICCBBA have called for a reform in milk labeling and identification, specifically supporting barcoding inventory systems that create an accurate, standardized, and rapid transfer of critical information between donor banks and NICUs while eliminating manual feeding errors.  Understandably, most donor banks cannot meet such stringent guidelines with their outdated tools, or afford to implement new inventory systems on their modest budgets.  With so few milk banks to supply so many NICUs, many hospitals have no choice but to feed their patients with addictive formulas.
After recognizing this challenge, SafeBaby® Solutions created a comprehensive donor milk management system allowing more efficient bank to hospital communication.  Through a revolutionary combination of barcode and cloud technology, donor banks can collect, scan, and upload each tube of breast milk’s weight and caloric count, as well as automatically update their database of available product.  Barcoded tubes are tracked by lot number, calories, and expiration date, keeping your milk safe for consumption.  Client NICUs using the same SafeBaby® System as their donor banks can more easily access milk nutrition and availability, as well as instantly notify a donor center when their milk supply is running low.  By anticipating their hospital’s needs, donor centers can offer quick and complete service competing banks cannot.
SafeBaby® Software Solutions believes that every baby has the right to good nutrition.  Through this widespread inventory system donation, we aim to help NICUs reach a 100 percent breast milk feeding rate for each preemie’s first 30 days of life, regardless of feeding challenges or donor milk shortages.  To find out how your donor bank can qualify for a free SafeBaby® System, contact us at 888.617.4444 or visit www.safebabybmt.com.
